This week in technology was all about working with graphics, and talked about multimedia learning theory. We have been talking a lot about this in our educational psychology course as well through learning about the working memory. This theory discusses how people can learn more deeply from words with pictures if they are presented in a meaningful way. For example the visuals need to complement the information that is being presented to further their understanding, rather than distracting from it. This can help students have a deeper understanding due to how our short term memory works. The short term memory contains 3 different parts including the visuospatial sketchpad. This is the function that enables us to dual-code. Our working memory will keep track of the new information we are learning as well as the visuals to help us understand the information. This is why it is so important to know how to create graphics that will help learners. One of the tools that we were introduced to do this was PowerPoint. You can make a tone of different graphics including ones that are 3D!

This is a graphic I made on power point with that can show students what a real heart would look like. On power point this is a 3D image that can be rotated around to visualize the different parts of the heart.
