The integration of AI in education is a emerging topic with significant implications for teachers. Common Sense Education stands out as a valuable resource, offering reviews on teaching technology and tools for the classroom, serving as a useful reference for group projects.
In our class discussions, we explored the controversial issue of using AI-generated images, and Chatgpt. ChatGPT, alongside newer counterparts like Bard and Claude, is gaining popularity among students. While its use expands, the absence of established policies raises ethical concerns, particularly regarding student privacy and academic integrity. Despite its growing popularity, challenges remain, including the failure of current plagiarism detection AI to identify content generated by ChatGPT. Nevertheless, some universities are already embracing AI technologies, purchasing them for institutional use.
For teachers, the implications of AI in education are profound. As AI becomes increasingly prevalent in schools, educators must develop a nuanced understanding of its capabilities and limitations. Similar to the gradual acceptance of calculators in classrooms, we may witness a similar evolution with AI. Although currently there are ongoing debates about its appropriate use within the education system.
This paragraph was written with the help of ChatGPT. I put in the notes that I took during class and I asked it to write me a reflection. I took bits and pieces from ChatGPT gave me and rearranged the paragraphs until I liked it. I do think that this reflection sounds very Chaty and doesn’t have my style of writing and uses words that I never would. Personally, I usually use ChatGPT to generate ideas and reword my own writing rather than simply getting it to write my papers for me. Overall, I think that it would take more time putting in the prompts to get the paper the way I wanted it to be than it would to just write the paper myself. I see AI as a really useful resource, and I think if I practiced using it more then I could use it more efficiently.
